Rogers of this city, celebrated their golden wedding on Sunday, Nov. 17 with a family dinner. As neither is well, only their three sons and wives, Mr. and Mrs. Roland Rogers, Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Rogers of this city, and Mr. and Mrs. Byron Rogers of Mowerystown, were present. Their other son, Charles of Chicago, was unable to attend. Mr. Rogers is 79 years of age and Mrs. Rogers is 73. They were married at the home of the bride's parents in Samatha by Rev. E. L. Knox. Mrs.Rogers was Miss Martha Kerns before her marriage. They have lived all their lives in Highland County and for many years have lived in Hillsboro. Their many fine traits of character, honesty, industry, kindness and helpfulness have won for them many warm friends and admirers. Mr. Rogers is one of the best known auctioneers in the county but in the last few years has called but few sales. For four years he has served as baliff of the common pleas courts, having been appointed by Judge McDowell, also he has called the sales for Sheriff Dunseith. Rogers, 85, died at his home on East North Street at 3:15 P.M. Monday. In failing health for two years, he had been seriously ill for about 10 days. Engaged in farming in early life, he moved to Hillsboro and entered into auctioneering. He served as court bailiff under George McDowell for several years until his health failed. Several years ago he was one of the board of directors of the Highland County Home. Funeral services were held Wednesday at 2:30 P.M. at the D. M. Evans Funeral Home, with Rev. S. W. Wiant officiating. Interment was in Hillsboro Cemetery. Survivors include his wife, Martha G. Rogers; four sons: J. Roland, Byron W. and Ralph M., Hillsboro; Charles K. Chicago; one-half sister, Nota Tharp, Hillsboro.
