Description	:	Obituary from the Topeka Capita-Journal 10-16-1988 Services will be at 3 p. m. Monday at Tibbitts-Griffin Funeral Chapel for Walter D. Allen, 84, Lawrence, formerly of Richland. He died Friday Oct. 14, 1988, at a Lawrence hospital where he was admitted Wednesday. Mr. Allen was manager of the Richland Grain Elevator for 28 yers. He was then employed as a grain inspector for the State of Kansas and warehouse examiner for the federal government until he retired in 1975. He was born Sept. 21. 1904, at Topeka, the son of William D. and Mary E. Hillner Allen. He had lived in Lawrence since 1961. Mr. Allen served 21 years on the Berryton High School Board and 15 years on the Richland Elementary School Board. He was a former member of Albert Neese Lodge No. 248, AF&AM. He was married to Elizabeth Haines on Feb. 21, 1928, in Topeka. She survives. Other survivors include a son, Wayne D. Allen, San Jose, Calif.; two daughters, Betty Phillips, Sunnyvale,Calif. and Judi Prestridge, Austin, Texas; a brother, Oren Allen, Garden Grove, Calif.; two sisters, Avis Stine, Topeka, and Mrs. Ona Godlove, Carbondale; six grandchildren and a great-grandchild.
