Description	:	In Memory of: Walter E. Billings, 66, a resident of rural Cumberland, passed away Saturday afternoon at his home. The son of Cleve and Ethel Wichert Billings, he was born January 19, 1921 at Lewis and graduated from the Lewis High School in 1938. He was married to Marjorie Holste on January 30, 1946 at St. Peter’s United Church of Christ south of Massena. Mr. Billings farmed southeast of Lyman for 42 years. Billings, 66, a resident of rural Cumberland, passed away Saturday afternoon at his home. The son of Cleve and Ethel Wichert Billings, he was born January 19, 1921 at Lewis and graduated from the Lewis High School in 1938. He was married to Marjorie Holste on January 30, 1946 at St. Peter’s United Church of Christ south of Massena. Mr. Billings farmed southeast of Lyman for 42 years. He served with 348th Combat Engineers in the European Theater during WWII and participated in the D-Day invasion, landing on Omaha Beach, and later was part of the Battle of the Bulge. He was a member of St. John’s United Church of Christ south of Lyman. He is survived by his wife, Marjorie; two sons, Bill Billings of Santa Fe, New Mexico and Larry Billings and his wife Cheryl of Hancock, Iowa; a daughter Linda Pierson and her husband Mike of Oakland; two grandsons, Jim and Joshua Billings of Hancock; a granddaughter, Erin Pierson of Oakland; three brothers. Lyle Billings, Lloyd (Poncho) Billings and his wife Ruth, and Duane (Tuff) Billings and his wife Evona of Lewis; two sisters, June Regenitter of Cedar Rapids and Norma Price of Avoca; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Dale and Maurice Billings; and two sisters, Margaret Billings and Ruby McClure.
