The deceased went west some years ago and his whereabouts were pretty much unknown. In the summer the brother read in a St. Paul newspaper of the murder of Walter McClure, near Lewiston, Mont., and wrote there to learn the facts. The reply convinced him that the victim was his brother and on the 9th of October he went west to investigate. Learning the facts there he had the body exhumed and was able to identify it. The deceased was in the employ of a stock firm herding a flock of sheep, and was living alone fifty miles from Lewiston. An occasional visitor was a man, W. E. Craft, who distributed for the company provisions among the herders at different points. On June 13, the dead body of McClure was found on the ranch with a bullet hole through the head, from back to front, indication that he had been shot from the rear. Without formalities the body was interred in a rough pine box and the affair seemed to be a mystery that would never be unraveled. But three days later, on the 16th of June, the teamster, Craft, committed suicide and left a note saying that he shot McClure. The cause for his act was not stated and as to this there is no clue. It is a hard blow to the aged father and mother and to the brothers and sisters, but there is comfort in the fact that the remains now rest in the home cemetery, near Grove Church, where the funeral was held last Sunday. The deceased was born in Richland Township, Feb. 20, 1872.
