ASHTABULA — Walter Edward Hodgkinson, age 76, of W. 8th St., passed away Tuesday, March 25, 2014, at Ashtabula County Medical Center.
He was born Nov. 13, 1937, in Ashtabula, the son of William A. and Bernice H. (Walton) Hodgkinson and had been a lifetime Ashtabula resident. He attended Ashtabula High School and was proud to have served his country in the Army National Guard for several years.

ASHTABULA — Walter Edward Hodgkinson, age 76, of W. 8th St., passed away Tuesday, March 25, 2014, at Ashtabula County Medical Center.
He was born Nov. 13, 1937, in Ashtabula, the son of William A. and Bernice H. (Walton) Hodgkinson and had been a lifetime Ashtabula resident. He attended Ashtabula High School and was proud to have served his country in the Army National Guard for several years.
Prior to his retirement, he worked as a truck driver for Smith Trucking in Steubenville, Ohio. He previously drove for Chapman's Food Service, worked on the New York Central Railroad, and had been employed at NAMCO Controls in Jefferson as well.
Mr. Hodgkinson liked to fix things. He was handy and never turned anyone away who needed help. He was a great storyteller and always shared stories about his trucking adventures. He loved to take road trips and Sunday drives and loved children as much as children loved him.
His survivors include his wife, Anna Mae (Zanko) Hodgkinson, whom he married Nov. 12, 1960; three children, Edward J. (Rhonda Holmes) Hodgkinson of Bellevue, Brenda A. Hall of Ashtabula and John D. (Debbie) Hodgkinson of Ashtabula; eight grandchildren, Robert, Collin, Dylan, Brittany, Kristal, David, Brian, and Alex; four great-grandchildren, Anthony, Troy, Jericho, and Alexis; three brothers, Dale L. (Anna) of Ashtabula, Roy A. of Pineville, Mo., and Timothy W. (Mitzi) of Pierpont; one sister, Joyce Bogar of Ashtabula; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his son-in-law, Terry Hall; three sisters, Helen Kerns, Margaret Drum, and Gale L. Hodgkinson; eight brothers, John, Ronald, David, all in infancy, and Willard, Paul, William T., Edgar P. and Frederick; and his parents.
Calling Hours will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., with a Service at 1 p.m., Friday, March 28th, at ZABACK-WILLIAMS-DUCRO FUNERAL HOME, 500 W. Prospect Road, Ashtabula. The Rev. Kenneth Roberts, Pastor of the Pentecostal Church of God, will officiate. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memory Gardens, North Kingsville.

Bernice H. Hodgkinson
ASHTABULA – Bernice Helen Hodgkinson, 87, of Kain Avenue died Thursday, July 4, 2002 at the Ashtabula County Medical Center.
She was born July 11, 1914 in New Lyme, the daughter of Oliver and Daisy (Gowdy) Walton and had been an Ashtabula resident most of her life.
Prior to her retirement, she worked for Herron Studios and as a caregiver for several families in the area.
Mrs. Hodgkinson completed a home study program in practical nursing through the Philadelphia School of Practical Nursing on September 4, 1959.
For over 60 years, she was a member of Prospect Presbyterian Church where she was active in the sewing and prayer groups, served as a deacon, and provided correspondence for the sick.
Her survivors include six sons, William T., Walter E., Edgar P., and Dale L., all of Ashtabula, Roy A. of Pineville, Missouri, and Timothy W. of Pierpont; three daughters, Margaret Drum of Port Bolivar, Texas, Gale L. Hodgkinson of Ashtabula, and Joyce Bogar of Conneaut; 42 grandchildren; 51 great-grandchildren; 10 great-great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Violet Gantz of Ashtabula and Evelyn McConnell of Adamsville, Pennsylvania; and one step-brother, Ronald Bennett of Brookfield.
She was preceded in death by her husband, William A.; one daughter, Helen Kerns; five sons, John, Ronald, David, all in infancy, Willard, and Paul; one step-son, Frederick; two brothers, Willard Walton and Ira Walton; one sister, Lulu Walton; one step-sister, Ruth McGee; and her parents.
A service will be held 11 A.M. Monday, July 8, 2002 at the Prospect Presbyterian Church, 1342 West Prospect Road, Ashtabula. Elder Bill Daywalt will officiate. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memory Gardens, North Kingsville.
Calling hours will be 7 to 9 P.M. Sunday, June 7, 2002 at the Zaback-Czup Funeral Home, 500 West Prospect Road, Ashtabula and at the church Monday June 8 from 10 A.M until the service at 11 A.M.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Prospect Presbyterian Church Memorial Fund.
