Description	:	WALTER E. GODDING (August 19, 1928 - December 28, 2007) Walter E. Godding, 79, of Atchison, Kansas, passed away on December 28, 2007. Walter was born in Atchison, Kansas the son of Bert Lincoln and Elizabeth Harris Godding. He attended Atchison Elementary Schools, graduating from Atchison High School. He then attended St. Benedict's College, Atchison. He and the former Lucille Jones were united in marriage on May 2, 1959 at Rushville, Missouri. Walter was employed with the former Pillsbury Milling Company and Locomotive Finished Materials Company of Atchison. Godding, 79, of Atchison, Kansas, passed away on December 28, 2007. Walter was born in Atchison, Kansas the son of Bert Lincoln and Elizabeth Harris Godding. He attended Atchison Elementary Schools, graduating from Atchison High School. He then attended St. Benedict's College, Atchison. He and the former Lucille Jones were united in marriage on May 2, 1959 at Rushville, Missouri. Walter was employed with the former Pillsbury Milling Company and Locomotive Finished Materials Company of Atchison. In the early 1960's, he and his brothers owned and operated the Godding Oil Company and service station on west Main Street and then on US Highway 59 until the mid 1980's. Additionally, Walter served as a correctional officer for the Kansas State Prison, Lansing, Kansas from mid 1970's until his retirement in 1992. Walter served in the United States Army as a guard both in the United States and Japan. A noted poet, he wrote many poems, even publishing a book of his written poetry. Walter E. Godding is survived by his wife, Lucille Godding, of the home in Atchison, KS, two daughters, Vicki Boos, Grapevine, TX, Vivian Schrag, Springhill, KS, two sons, William D. (Bill) Godding, Enid, OK, Roger E. Godding, Plano, TX, a sister, Katherine Lillich, Utica, CO, a brother, Glen Godding, Kansas City, KS, ten grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his parents, a daughter, Valerie Harris on December 23, 2007 and two brothers, Roy Godding and Harris Godding. Services to be held on Monday, December 31, 2007 at 1:30 p.m., in the chapel of Arensberg-Pruett Funeral Home with Rev. Robert Ziegler officiating. Interment will follow in Sunset Memory Gardens Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be Sunday, December 30, 2007 from 2:00-4:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorial contributions are suggested to Trinity Lutheran Church or Atchison Hospice.
