Murphy telling of the death of her father, Walter Elledge, at Benton Harbor, Michigan, on Tuesday. He had been there this summer with his sister, Mrs. Clark Chapman (Grace Elledge). The remains will be brought to Nelson today, but the funeral arrangements are not completed. The Nelson Gazette (Nelson, NE), Thursday, September 12, 1935; pg. 1 ================ Walter Fred Elledge, eldest son of William and Permelia Elledge, was born July 26, 1871, near Greggsville, Illinois, and departed this life at the home of his son Merlin at Westmount (sic), Illinois, September 10, 1935, at the age of 64 years, 1 month and 15 days. He came to Nuckolls county (sic) with his parents at the age of eleven years and lived in the Mount Clare vicinity a number of years, then moved to a farm northeast of Nelson. Then in recent years he made his home with is children. On March 28, 1894, he was united in marriage to Miss Edith Belle Strawhecker. To this union were born six sons and three daughters. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife on September 23, 1925, and two sons who died in infancy. Surviving him are Earnest of Mt. Clare, Merline of Westmount, Illinois, Wilma Murphy of Nelson, Kenneth of Burr Oak, Kansas, Mrs. Evelyn Nelson of Denver, Colo., Milford of Bridgeport, Mrs. LaVerda Glennen of Denver, all of whom were present at the funeral, except the son Milford who was unable to come. Also a brother Clarence of Three Brothers, Arkansas, and a sister Mrs. Grace Chapman of Benton Harbor, Mich., and 21 grand children; and a number of other relatives and a host of friends. The deceased united with the Methodist church in his boyhood and remained a faithful disciple of his Master. The funeral service was conducted by Rev. John Caldwell of the Presbyterian church, in the Methodist church in Nelson, at 2:30 p.m. Saturday. We wish to extend our heartfelt thanks to our many friends and neighbors for their kind assistance and loving sympathy in this time of our sorrow. Also for the floral tributes and beautiful music.
