Description	:	Walter F. Rhoda was born in Chelsea township, fillmore county, to Charles and Jessie Wilson Rhoda on August 20, 1909. He passed away on February 6, 1993, at the Fillmore County Hospital in Geneva at the age of 83 years, 5 months and 16 days. He was one of two sons in the family. This early separation resulted in the family... Read More	Walter F. Rhoda was born in Chelsea township, fillmore county, to Charles and Jessie Wilson Rhoda on August 20, 1909. He passed away on February 6, 1993, at the Fillmore County Hospital in Geneva at the age of 83 years, 5 months and 16 days. He was one of two sons in the family. His early years were spent on the farm in Chelsea township. When Walt was quite young, his mother and father were separated. Walt lived with his mother, and Fred was raised by his father. This early separation resulted in the family not being close bonded. Walt lived with his mother and Grandmother Wilson in what is now the Mike and Susie Taylor home, and he attended Geneva Elementary School and graduated with the Class of 1928 from Geneva High School. He joined the Congregational Church in 1924, and while his mother was living attended regularly. During World War II he was employed by the government in Omaha. Upon returning to Geneva, he held various employment positions. For several years he helped Paul H. Farmer with funeral services and for over 22 years he was employed as a substitute rural letter carrier. In all positions he was a most reliable and dependable employee. Some sad and emotionally disturbing occurrences in years past resulted in Walt choosing to become rather reclusive. He chose to live alone, spending his time reading and watching television. In years prior to this, he was active in the Geneva Cemetery Association, providing input for progressive improvements. He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Jessie; and by his brother, Fred. He is survived by a nephew, don Rhoda; niece, Janet Robinson; sister-in-law, Mabel Rhoda; and by several cousins. Funeral services were conducted from the Farmer & son funeral Home in Geneva on Tuesday, February 9, 1993, with Rev. Wanda Bennett officiating. Musical selections were “Precious memories” and “Precious Lord, Take My Hand.” Those serving as pallbearers were Jack J. Bartak, George I. Cruse, Bill C. Eich, Orval M.
