Description	:	Walter Hellbusch, 94 of Columbus, Nebraska, died Tuesday, December 4, 2012, at the Countryside Home in Madison, Nebraska. The funeral service will be held on Saturday, December 8, 2012, at 10:00 AM at St. John's Lutheran Church, 12.5 miles North, with Rev. Brad Birtell officiating. Interment will be in the parish cemetery. Visitation will be on Friday from 4:00 PM – 7:00 PM at Gass Haney Funeral Home and continue on Saturday from 9:00 AM until service time at the church. Walter was born January 4, 1918, on the family farm near Creston, Nebraska to William and Amelia (Muth) Hellbusch. He was baptized on February 10, 1918, at St. John's Lutheran Church. Walter received his education at St. John's Lutheran Church and confirmed his Christian faith on May 8, 1932. Walter worked for many area farmers as a youth, and the farm became a way of life for him. On November 25, 1943, Walter was united in marriage to Vera Groteluschen at Zion Lutheran Church in Leigh, Nebraska. The couple farmed and was cattle feeders until retiring in 1985 and moving into Columbus. Walter was a faithful member of St. John's Lutheran Church where he had served as an elder of the church. He served on the Humphrey Coop Board, and was enjoyed bowling. Walter spent a lot of time going to the sale barn and driving around looking at the crops. He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and visiting with his numerous friends.
