Description	:	Walter H. Janzen, 88, died on August 17, 2008 at the Presbyterian Manor in Newton, Kansas. He was born on June 6, 1920, the son of Sarah (Hiebert) and Cornelius K. Janzen in Rural Goessel, Kansas. Walter helped his father on the farm until in rural Goessel until his family moved to Newton in 1943. Janzen, 88, died on August 17, 2008 at the Presbyterian Manor in Newton, Kansas. He was born on June 6, 1920, the son of Sarah (Hiebert) and Cornelius K. Janzen in Rural Goessel, Kansas. Walter helped his father on the farm until in rural Goessel until his family moved to Newton in 1943. As a conscientious objector he served in the Civil Public Service during World War II in Iowa and Illinois from Feb 5, 1942 to Nov 27, 1944. Upon his return he worked for different farmers in the Newton area, east of town. Walter had been employed at various local industries in Newton including the cleaning and maintenance or Ross-Cargill, NewProcess, then moved on to Guerdon Industries and worked until 1959 when Guerdon's closed. Walter loved to travel in his car around the United States. He attended several world fairs and visited many points of interest around the country and back. While growing up, he was a member of Tabor Mennonite Church, and then transferred his membership to First Mennonite Church in Newton, following his time served in the Civil Public Service. Although Walter had been hearing impaired for many years, but his accomplishments were phenomenal. Survivors include 4 brothers, Edwin H. (Mary Jane) Jantzen, North Newton, Cornelius "Curt" H. Janzen, North Newton, Elmer H. Jantzen, Wichita and Adolph H. Janzen, Enid, OK; 1 sister, Lydia Flaming, Newton; many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, 2 brothers, Arthur H. and Abe H. Janzen. Funeral Services were August 20th, at the Broadway Colonial Funeral Home Chapel. Pastor Clarence Rempel presiding. Memorials may be made to the First Mennonite Church in care of the funeral home.
