Mr. Mercer was born January 22, 1919, in Andrews, a son of the late John Clarence Mercer and the late Lillian Mercer Mercer. He was a charter member of Wayne United Methodist Church for 60 years, served as a trustee was a member of the Curtis Bell Sunday School Class. He was a WW II veteran of the US Navy. Pleasant, SC. Mr. Mercer was born January 22, 1919, in Andrews, a son of the late John Clarence Mercer and the late Lillian Mercer Mercer. He was a charter member of Wayne United Methodist Church for 60 years, served as a trustee was a member of the Curtis Bell Sunday School Class. He was a WW II veteran of the US Navy. As a local contractor for more than forty years, he built many houses in the Georgetown area. He enjoyed cooking and fishing. He was survived by five children, Larry Mercer of Georgetown, Ronald Mercer of Georgetown, Glenn (Kathy) Mercer of Barrington, IL, Julia (James) Sanderson of Georgetown, and Mark (Amber) Mercer of Georgetown; twelve grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; two brothers, Carey (Elaine) Mercer and Bobo (Gloria) Mercer, both of Georgetown; a sister, Gail Wilson of PA; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services were Saturday, April 19, 2014, in Wayne United Methodist Church. The Rev. Danny Chamblee officiated.
