Burial will be in the church cemetery. Walter Hugh LeRoy was the son of Walter and Myrtle Collis LeRoy. He attended rural grade school southwest of Underwood, graduated from high school in Bismarck, and attended the University of North Dakota. He married Cleome Englund on March 4, 1933, at her parents home near Underwood. They were the parents of one son; David. They farmed and ranched nine miles southwest of Underwood for almost 50 years. Walter continued living on the farm until entering Prairieview Nursing Home in December 1994. Walter and Cleome enjoyed a Christ-centered life together. They traveled extensively in their spare time from the farm, eventually visiting all 50 states. They enjoyed spending their winters in Florida and Arizona in their later years. Walter enjoyed sharing their special experiences with family and friends. Walter continued living on the farm until entering Prairieview Nursing Home in December 1994. Walter will be remembered by his family and friends as a devoted husband, father and grandfather, and an admired community leader. Walter was a past member of the Underwood School Board, McLean County Agriculture Improvement Association, chairman of the board of the Underwood Community Clinic Association, first chairman of the board of the Underwood Prairieview Nursing Home, served on the board of the McLean County Farm Bureau and the Missouri Slope Wool Pool and was the first president of the statewide North Dakota State Healthcare Association. He will also be remembered for his many contributions as a dedicated and active church leader. Walter was a member of the Christian Endeavor Convention in his early years and in that capacity traveled all around the country. He was an active member of Underwood Alexander Presbyterian Church where he was an elder for over 60 years and for many of those years also served as a Sunday school teacher. He was a board member of Covenant College and Theological Seminary. Walter was also instrumental in establishing the Great Plains Bible Camp east of Underwood and was active in the promotion and operation of that camp for many years.
