Description	:	Walter J. Pfenning, age 95, left his earthly home to join his beloved Savior on October 5, 2017. He was born at Beulah, North Dakota on Jan 19, 1922, to John and Margaret (Koehler) Pfennig. He was raised on a farm north of Beulah and always felt blessed to be part of a large family who he loved dearly. Services will be held at 10:00 AM CDT, Tuesday, October 10, 2017, at Peace Lutheran Church, Hazen, with Pastor Walt Wolff officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 PM, Monday,... Read More	Walter J. Pfenning, age 95, left his earthly home to join his beloved Savior on October 5, 2017. He was born at Beulah, North Dakota on Jan 19, 1922, to John and Margaret (Koehler) Pfennig. He was raised on a farm north of Beulah and always felt blessed to be part of a large family who he loved dearly. Services will be held at 10:00 AM CDT, Tuesday, October 10, 2017, at Peace Lutheran Church, Hazen, with Pastor Walt Wolff officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 PM, Monday, at Barbot Funeral Home, Hazen. Walt was known far and wide as a businessman in Hazen. Many of his customers became his great friends. He was the proud owner of West End Shop, a dealership for farm machinery and later for automobiles. He became lifelong friends with many fellow dealers and loved traveling to get together with them. He was a businessman for 35 years. After his retirement he traveled to Arizona for 19 winters and he loved the journey there as much as the destination. When he first retired, he worked as a caretaker at the Downstream Campground for 2 summers. In his earlier years, he worked for Klaudt Sales & Service, Western Motor Company, and Barthel & Buri. Walt loved his church family and served as the building chairman when Peace Lutheran’s new addition was built. He spent countless hours working there and has fond memories of refurbishing the stain glass windows with his good friend, Walter Sailer. Walt loved to work hard and keep busy. His favorite hobbies were going dancing and fishing for walleye on Lake Sakakawea. Walt is survived by his only daughter, Deb & Joe Jochim of Hazen, and their children Erin Jochim of Laurel, MT, Kaysi & Chad Boehm of Mandan, ND, and great grandson, Rylan Jochim who called him “Bumpa” of Laurel, MT. Rylan and Bumpa loved to play matchbox cars together. He also leaves behind his siblings, Hulda Erdman, Helmuth (Lea) Pfennig, Frieda Jose, and Lorraine Guell; his sister-in-law and great friend, Edna Miller; and many special nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by the love of his life, Carol Miller; his sons Floyd and Gary Pfenning; his parents; five brothers, Theophil, Jacob, Theodore (Ted), Friedebert (Fred), and Johannes (John); four sisters, Ernstina Morast, Irene Jose, Martha Jose, and Margaret Lang; and many, many special friends and extended family who he was looking forward to reuniting with in heaven.
