Description	:	Walter J. Weis, son of Mrs. Clara Weis and the late Jacob Weis, was born February 16, 1891, at Shickley, Neb. He passed away at St. Catherine's hospital in Omaha, April 12, 1946. He had entered the hospital just a week previous for treatment. Walter moved with his parents to Geneva, at the age of eight and had resided there since that time. Read More	Walter J. Weis, son of Mrs. Clara Weis and the late Jacob Weis, was born February 16, 1891, at Shickley, Neb. He passed away at St. Catherine's hospital in Omaha, April 12, 1946. He had entered the hospital just a week previous for treatment. Walter moved with his parents to Geneva, at the age of eight and had resided there since that time. Prior to entering the service in 1918, he was engaged in business, and a men's furnishing and cleaning establishment. He entered the service in World War I May 28, 1918, and served overseas eighteen months in the 88th Division, 350th Infantry, Company C. while overseas, he participated in active combat, the results of which impaired his health since that time. For a number of years Mr. Weis had operated a cafe in Geneva. He was a charter member of Sloan-Bolton post of the American Legion and an enthusiastic supporter of that organization. He was a staunch friend of any service man and took a special interest in the boys of World War II. He is survived by his mother, Mrs. Jacob Weis, four sisters, Mrs. Glen Carson of Eldora, Ia., Mrs. Fred Kenney of Geneva, Mrs. Will Baroch of Harlan, Ia., and his twin sister, Florence Weis of Geneva; and one brother, Reno J. Weis of Geneva, also four nieces and three nephews. Funeral services were conducted from St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Geneva at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday, April 15, with Rev. James Gilroy officiating. Interment was at the Catholic cemetery with the American Legion in charge. There was a large attendance of Legionnaires, with the veterans of the last war in uniform. A firing squad fired a salute and taps was followed by two echos. The colorbearers wee Fred Fisher and Dale Thole. Pallbearers were Leo Weis, Louis Weis, Francis Weis, Virgil Fixemer, Everett Ostdiek and Gerald McLaughlin, all service men from the last war, and four of whom were cousins of the deceased. Honorary pallbearers were close friends, Fred Meyer. Tom Keenan, Carl Schneider, Robert Buchanan, Will Kenney and Fred Schneider. The Nebraska Signal April 18th, 1946 page 5.
