Burial will follow in Riverside cemetery. Mr. Hunker died Thursday in St. Louis Park, Minn. He was born Jan. 21, 1896, in Sterling, the son of Jacob Mathias and Mary Alice Sowards Hunker. He was born Jan. 21, 1896, in Sterling, the son of Jacob Mathias and Mary Alice Sowards Hunker. He lived with his parents on a ranch near Atwood and attended the Atwood schools. He attended a business college in Grand Island, Neb., prior to serving in the U.S. Army during World War I. Following his discharge from the Army, Mr. Hunker returned to Atwood where he farmed for three years. He married Christine Bettger, Dec. 9, 1921, in Sterling and the couple moved to Sterling where Mr. Hunker was the automotive service manager for Ray Smith Motor for 45 years, retiring in 1963. Mr. Hunker was a member of the First United Presbyterian Church, served as an elder, a deacon and Sunday school teacher of the church and was a member of the Sterling American Legion Post No. 20. He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Christine Hunker of Sterling; two daughters, Mrs. Mildred Fritzler of Sterling, Mrs. Beatrice Bonham of Willard; a son, Melvin L. Hunker of Minnetonka, Minn.; four sisters, Mrs. Pearl Martin of Tiffin, Ohio, Mrs. Alta Robinson of Vancouver, Wash., Mrs. Daisy Riley of Walsen burg; a brother, Delton Hunker of Portland, Ore., and two grandchildren. Chaney-Walters Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
