Fourth, died Saturday, Jan., 8, 1994, at the Veterans Administration hospital in Topeka. He worked as a carpenter and was employed by USD 257 for 27 years before he retired. The son of Walter R. and Mary Gibson Looney, he was born Oct. 3, 1919, in Chanute. He married Helen L. Smith in 1939. They made their home in Iola. Mr. Looney served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II. He was a member of the Veterns of Foreign Wars, the American Legion, and the Elks. Survivors include his wife, Helen, six sons, Charles, of Dripping Springs, Texas, Robert of Rices Crossing, Texas, Walt, Palmette, Texas, Larry, Seattle, Wash., Donald, Austin, Texas, and Harold, Wichita; a sister Ella Hamilton, Parsons; a stepbrother, Cecil Serl, Oklahoma; a stepsister, Vivian Morris, Iola; and 13 grandchildren. A daughter, Janice Welden; and two grandchildren are deceased. The funeral will be at 1 p. m. Tuesday at Waugh-Yokum and Friskel Memorial Chapels, 16 N. Buckeye. Elder Leon Murrow will officiate. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery.
