Mr. Bewley was a son of the late W. D. Bewley and Emma Whiteside Bewley, and was born in Elberton, Ga., but spent most of his life in Anderson. He had been engaged in newspaper work practically all his life. He first entered the newspaper field as a carrier for the Daily Mail, and later for a time was associated with the M. M. Mattison Insurance agency, but soon returned to newspaper work which he was to make his vocation, and served in various capacities on the Daily Mail. His career, however, was interrupted by service in both World War I and World War II, and at the conclusion of World War II, he joined the staff of the Associated Press and worked in Washington, Charlotte and Raleigh. On leaving the AP, he went to the advertising staff of the Charlotte Observer. He worked on the Observer several years before returning to Anderson, a number of years ago to the the staff of The Independent and Daily Mail. An unusually gifted person, he was equally at home covering a news assignment, writing an editorial, writing headlines on the copy desk or in laying our advertisements. An avid reader and poetry lover, Mr. Bewley loved to quote form his favorites. He was a member of the Anderson Elks Club and the First Baptist Church of Anderson. Surviving are two brothers, Willima W. Bewley, of Anderson and Hale Bewley of Dallas, Texas; four sisters, Mrs. Sam Kluttz of Chester, Mrs. William E. Goforth, of Staunton, Va., Mrs Fred Felkel and Mrs. Theo L. Burris, of Anderson. Funeral services will be held a from the chapel of the Sullivan-King Mortuary at 3 p. m. today, Dr. Carl R. Flint, his pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Silver Brook cemetery.
