Read More	WANDA PAULINE GERKEN Mom, Grandma, & Great Grandma Our mom, Wanda (Giberson) Gerken, 85, passed away at her home in Forbestown, CA on 9/8/10. Mom resided in the Yuba-Sutter area for over 54 years. “I did it my way,” is how she lived her life. Despite battling long term lung disease, she did everything she wanted to do and never stopped. Originally from Mattoon, Illinois, a city girl from the Great Depression, she broke her own ground in 1940's and moved to Chicago with a friend to experience life. She met our dad there, Donald Gerken. The newlyweds then moved to the Gerken family farm in Olwein, IA for a short time before heading West and settling in the Yuba-Sutter area. They were married for 40 years before he passed away way in 1987. She traveled a lot with Dad and even after his passing she always took the opportunity to visit us wherever we lived or where her friends wanted to go. She was active in the Yuba City and Brownsville communities, including Holy Angels School, Sororities, Hilltop Gang, and the American Heart Association, among several other interests. You could always find her playing cards, especially Bridge, and seldom lost. Now hand in hand with Dad, she is also with children and grandchildren who have passed before her: Karen Lindquist, David Gerken, Timothy Gerken, Greg McBride and Nicole Zwald. Mom is survived by her children, grandchildren and several great-grandchildren. Services will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be sent to Sutter North Hospice.
