He attended school at District 23. Ward's mother died when he was 10 years old and he became his dad's "right hand man." He worked his entire life, until retiring, raising hogs and cattle, corn, grain and hay. He attended school at District 23. Ward's mother died when he was 10 years old and he became his dad's "right hand man." He worked his entire life, until retiring, raising hogs and cattle, corn, grain and hay. Ward served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict, spending his time in Alaska as a telephone lineman. He was discharged with the rank of corporal. On June 28, 1953, he married Florence Abraham. Ward served as a Rural Youth Sponsor and was a director and past President of the Farmers Union Coop of Richland. He served as an usher and elder at the First Presbyterian Church and received a pin for 50 years of membership. Ward lived all his life north of Richland and was a quiet man of few words. His pastimes were going to the Richland Cafe for coffee, watching TV (especially wrestling) and playing cards. He is survived by his wife, Florence, of Richland; three sons, Daniel (Suzanne) Stevenson, of Columbus, Kenneth (Denise) Stevenson, of Richland, Thomas (Julie) Stevenson, of Aurora; seven grandchildren, Nicholas, Nathan, Rylee, Emily, Zach, Jordan and Madison; brother, Theilen (Marilyn) Stevenson, of Columbus; a sister, Izetta Best, of Columbus; brother-in-law, Carroll Ebner of Columbus; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; and a sister, Arlene Ebner.
