Description	:	Ward L. Kiester, 76, of Basehor, Kansas died on Saturday in Providence-St. Margaret Health Center, Kansas City, Kansas. He was a lifelong resident of Leavenworth County. He was former superintendent of the Basehor-Linwood Unified School District, serving the school system for 38 years and retiring in 1972. The Basehor High School football stadium was named after him in 1975. He had served on several commissions of the Kansas Department of Education. Kiester, 76, of Basehor, Kansas died on Saturday in Providence-St. Margaret Health Center, Kansas City, Kansas. He was a lifelong resident of Leavenworth County. He was former superintendent of the Basehor-Linwood Unified School District, serving the school system for 38 years and retiring in 1972. The Basehor High School football stadium was named after him in 1975. He had served on several commissions of the Kansas Department of Education. He had been northeast Kansas area vice president and master builder of the National Education Association. He was a member of the American Association of School Administrators, a life member of the Leavenworth County Chapter of the National Retired Teachers Association and was inducted into the Kansas Teacher's Hall of Fame in 1978. He was governor of the Kansas District of Kiwanis International in 1974 and 1975. Mr. Kiester was a 50-year member of both the Linwood Masonic Lodge and the Rinda Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star, Tonganoxie. He was a member of the Patrons of Husbandry and was vice president of the board of the Basehor Senior Citizens Housing Project. He received a bachelor's degree from the University of Kansas in 1930 and a master's degree from KU in 1932. He was an officer in the Army during World War II and a member of the American Legion. He is survived by his wife, Irene Kiester of the home, nephews, and nieces. Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday in the United Methodist Church, Basehor, with burial in the Wellsville, Kansas Cemetery. Friends may call from noon to 9 p.m. today at the Quisenberry Chapel, Tonganoxie, where Masonic services will be conducted at 8 p.m. The family suggests contributions to the church.
