Description	:	Warren Daniel Pierce son of Samuel and Susan Isabella Brower Pierce, was born June 4, 1884 in Taylor County, Iowa and passed away December 2, 1980 at his son's home, west of Stanton, Iowa, at the age of 96 years and 8 months. He spent most of his life in Adams and Montgomery Counties. He was united in marriage June 15, 1906 to Annie Ford Cooney. Read More	Warren Daniel Pierce son of Samuel and Susan Isabella Brower Pierce, was born June 4, 1884 in Taylor County, Iowa and passed away December 2, 1980 at his son's home, west of Stanton, Iowa, at the age of 96 years and 8 months. He spent most of his life in Adams and Montgomery Counties. He was united in marriage June 15, 1906 to Annie Ford Cooney. The couple was afforded the privilege of celebrating their 65th wedding anniversary prior to Mrs. Pierce's death in March 1970. The were engaged in farming most of their married life. For a number of years he bought and sold livestock. Dan was considered an expert judge of horses and at one time was buying horses for the Ringling Brothers Circus. For a number of years he was an active member of the Nodaway Saddle Club. Robert Shiffer came to live with mr. and Mrs. Pierce when he was 12 years old. After finishing high school in Nodaway, he attended school in Ames. In 1929 they took 2 year old James Chickering into their home and later adopted him. After his wife's death, he made his home with Jim and his wife Donna and their four daughters. He took great joy in his granddaughters, their husbands, and the great-grandchildren. He kept very active around the farm until his death. He always kepte the attitude of being younger than his years. Survivors include Jim and Donna; granddaughters Debra and husband Tom Ash and children, Scott, Kristy, and Mark of Lincoln. Dorene and husband Jerry Patterson and sons Curtis and Jason of Red Oak, Doris and husband Randy Barr and daughter Angie of Red Oak, and Denise and son Wayne of St. Joseph, Missouri; several cousins, nieces, and nephews. Funeral services were held December 5, at the Wolfe Funeral Home in Villisca. Burial was made in the Nodaway Cemetery. Adams County Free Press, December 25, 1980, page 9
