The funeral is scheduled for Saturday, July 30, 10:30 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church in Fairfield, with the Rev. Mike Metz officiating. Visitation will follow the service with a lunch in the church basement. Cremation and a private burial at Mt. Moriah Cemetery, Douds, will be held at a later date. Memorials may be made to the First United Methodist Church in Fairfield or to the VFW Post 2271. Mr. Stagers was born December 1, 1921 near Douds, IA to Roscoe C. and Elsie Duke Stagers. He married Irene Boyer on August 2, 1946 in Memphis, MO. They lived in Douds before making their home in Fairfield. He graduated from Douds High School, served as a medic in the United States Army during WWII, receiving the Purple Heart and Silver Star for gallantry in action, worked at John Morrell, Douds Quarry, and then farmed and retired after 28 years from ACCO Babcock. He was a life member of the VFW, past commander of the VFW Post 2271, a member of the First United Methodist Church, and a life member of the Disabled American Veterans. Survivors include his wife and five children: Linda Simpson and husband Jim of Fairfield, Shirley Stagers and Ron Shy of Cape Fair, MO, Jim Stagers and wife Becky of Bettendorf, IA, Bev Nelson and husband Rodney of Libertyville, Lori Boger and husband Wayne of Denver, CO. Three grandchildren: Alissa Simpson, Amanda Stagers and Trenton Nelson. Two step-grandchildren: Scott Simpson and Samantha Septer. One great-granddaughter and five step great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and one granddaughter, Lindsay Renee Stagers.
