Burial will be in Garden of Memories Cemetery, with Ernest-Bowyer VFW Post 791 providing military rites. Mr. Anderson, 70, of Yankton, died Tuesday (Sept. 9, 2008) at Avera Sacred Heart Hospital in Yankton. Born July 24, 1938, in Yankton, he grew up there and graduated from Yankton High School. He then served in the Navy. Following his discharge, he was recruited by IBM and trained as a computer programmer and software developer. His job took him and his families to San Bernardino, Calif.; Poughkeepsie, N.Y.; Austin, Texas; and finally Rochester. He retired from IBM in 1992. He married Susan Lane in 1956 in Yankton. They had four children: James, Jeanne, Deborah and Jamie. In 1979 he married Cindy Vandermark in Rochester, and they had four children: Elizabeth, Timothy, Rachel and Michael. Mr. Anderson was a member of the American Legion. He enjoyed karaoke, reading any book, and football, and was a fan of the Minnesota Vikings. He is survived by three sons, James (Shawn) of Rochester, Timothy and Michael, both of Alborn, Minn.; five daughters, Jeanne (John) Riedlinger of Clarks Grove, Minn., Deborah (Denis) Nelson of Rochester, Jamie (John) Lynch of Racine, Elizabeth Anderson and Rachel Anderson, both of Minneapolis; 12 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and three sisters, Joy (Ron) Voss of Boone, Iowa, Gay (Donald) Hodges of Irving, Texas, and Jana (Rod) McCloud of Yankton. He was preceded in death by his parents, Harvey and Edna (Ingebrigtson) Anderson; a brother, Roger; and his ex-wife, Susan. Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday at Wintz & Ray Funeral Home, and an hour before the service Saturday at the funeral home.
