Wava was born on February 10, 1925, on a farm southeast of Janesville, rural Cedar Falls, Iowa, the daughter of Emil Charles and Ivarena Mae (Phelps) Schmidt. Read More	Wava Maurine (Schmidt) Nolte, 90, of the Shell Rock Healthcare Center and formerly of Waverly and Janesville, died Sunday morning, August 30, 2015, at the Waverly Health Center, of natural causes. Wava was born on February 10, 1925, on a farm southeast of Janesville, rural Cedar Falls, Iowa, the daughter of Emil Charles and Ivarena Mae (Phelps) Schmidt. Wava was baptized and confirmed in 1937, at East Janesville Methodist Church. She attended country school near Denver and graduated from Janesville High School in 1942, where she was a member of the girls' basketball team. On November 23, 1944, she was united in marriage to Melvin Charles Nolte at her parent's home. Following their marriage the couple farmed near Waverly and in 1948, they started farming Melvin's parent's farm in Warren Township. Melvin died on March 5, 1989. Wava continued to live in her home in Waverly and for the past 12 years has made her residence at the Bartels Lutheran Retirement Community in Waverly and the Shell Rock Healthcare Center. Wava was a member of Warren United Methodist Church (now Heritage United Methodist) since 1942. While a member she helped with the alter flowers on Sunday, prepared communion, taught Sunday School Classes, was a member of the Women's Missionary Society, and enjoyed being a member of the Crusaders Sunday School Class, and helped with the Christmas and Easter pageants. Over the years Wava and her husband, Melvin were sextons for the Warren Evangelical Cemetery, rural Waverly. Wava enjoyed collecting dolls, enjoyed her ceramics for over 30 years and during those years winning many awards. She also enjoyed gardening and taking care of her many flower gardens. Wava spent a lot of time with the family and Warren church genealogy. She loved her children very much, but what gave her the most joy was spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, Emil and Ivarena Schmidt; her husband, Melvin; an infant son, Lon Alan Nolte; daughter, Janine Bogardus; a son-in-law, Larry Bogardus; 4 brothers, Duane in infancy, Lloyd, Ralph and Ronald Schmidt; and 2 sisters, Lucy Schmidt and Marie Busch. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, September 5, 2015, at 1:30 p.m. at Heritage United Methodist Church in Waverly, with Pastor John Brockschink officiating. Following the luncheon, Burial will be in Warren Evangelical Cemetery. Public visitation will be held on Friday, September 4th from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at the Kaiser-Corson Funeral Home in Waverly and also for an hour prior to service on Saturday at the church. Memorials may be directed to Warren Evangelical Cemetery.
