Wayne was born on September 6, 1915, in Bristow, Iowa, the son of Earl and Eula (DeArmon) Miller. He attended school in Dumont. After his schooling, Wayne started working in the field of carpentry. He was united in marriage to Dorothy Austin on July 6, 1940 in Waverly, Iowa. Wayne served in the United States Army during WWII from 1942-1945. Upon returning from service, Wayne and Dorothy made their home in Charles City and later moved to Waterloo. In 1953, the couple moved to Cedar Falls and Wayne started Wayne Miller Construction. He continued until 1977, and after that he primarily worked part time with his carpentry. Wayne was an avid outdoorsman enjoying fishing, and duck hunting. He enjoyed traveling in the winters to Arizona with Dorothy. Another enjoyment was traveling the Cedar Valley to craft shows while selling the items he made like clocks and pens. Wayne is survived by his two sons, Richard (Shirley) Miller of Taylor, Wisconsin and Gary (Marlene) Miller of Shell Rock, Iowa; five grandchildren, Angie (Mike) Headlee of Bemidji, Minnesota; Rachelle Miller (husband, Matthew Kutz) of Madison, Wisconsin; Katie Wauters of Oshkosh, Wisconsin; Ryan Miller of Waverly, Iowa and Jenny Miller of Waterloo, Iowa; seven great-grandchildren, Seth, Mya, Paige, Daniel, Zoey, Owen and Elliot; three brothers, Cecil Miller, Max Miller and Donald Miller; 3 sisters, Phyllis Armstrong, Kathy Hammond and Charlotte Maifield. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Dorothy on June 19, 2005, three brothers and two sisters. Funeral services will be held on Friday, December 14, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at the Cedar Heights Community Presbyterian Church in Cedar Falls with Pastor Shelly Wood officiating. Burial with military honors will be held in Riverside Cemetery, Shell Rock. There will be a visitation prior to the service on Friday at the church from 9:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Memorials may be directed to youth ministry at the Cedar Heights Community Presbyterian Church.
