Heller, 81, Abilene, Kansas died Wednesday October 29, 2003 at the Memorial Hospital, Abilene, Kansas. He was born October 2, 1922 at Woodbine, Kansas, the son of Herbert L. and Vera M. (Adam) Heller. He grew to manhood in the community of his birth, attended the rural schools and graduated from Chapman High School with the class of 1940.He was a veteran of WW II serving with the United States Navy. On April 12, 1946 he was united in marriage with Shirley D. Pearce in Topeka, Kansas. All their married life was spent in Abilene, Kansas.He owned and operated the Barnsdall Super Service in Abilene for twenty years, and was the service manager for Ronald Rice Motors for 8 years, prior to retirement. Mrs. Heller preceded him in death on December 23, 2001. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Abilene, the American Bowling Congress, and the Abilene Elks Club. Surviving are two daughters, Carol Williams and Pam Heller, both of Abilene, three sons, Larry Heller, Wamego, Kansas, Michael Heller, Tulsa, Oklahoma, and Scott Heller, Solomon, Kansas. five sisters, Evelyn Gugler, Dorothy Hartenstein, and Ruth Beetch, all of Abilene, Helen Baer, Wakefield, Kansas, and Bernice Schaeffer, Arvada, Colorado, a sister- in -law, Elaine Benedict, Anaheim, California, 7 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren, and other relatives. Besides his wife, Shirley, he was preceded in death by his parents, a son Ronald Heller, a grandson Richard Heller, and two sisters, Leona Mae Heller, and Betty Loy. A memorial service will be held at the First United Methodist Church, Abilene, Kansas, Saturday November 1, 2003 at 2:00 PM with Rev. Rick Saylor officiating. Inurnment will be in the Abilene Cemetery. The Martin-Becker-Carlson Funeral Home, Abilene, Kansas is in charge of arrangements. The family of Wayne L. Heller suggests that friends may contribute to the First United Methodist Church, or the Elsie Brooks Cancer Fund in his memory. Contributions may be left at the funeral home.
