Russell, 86, formerly of Warren Avenue, East Liverpool, died on Wednesday, Nov. 26, 2008, at the home of his son in Pickerington, Ohio, after a lengthy illness. The son of the late Oscar and Mary (Johnson) Russell, he was born in East Liverpool on July 14, 1922, and lived most of his life here. Russell, 86, formerly of Warren Avenue, East Liverpool, died on Wednesday, Nov. 26, 2008, at the home of his son in Pickerington, Ohio, after a lengthy illness. The son of the late Oscar and Mary (Johnson) Russell, he was born in East Liverpool on July 14, 1922, and lived most of his life here. Mr. Russell had retired from the former McIntosh Hemphill plant in Midland, where he worked as a Roll Turner. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps, and was a member of the Pleasant Heights Baptist Church, where he served as a Deacon and taught Sunday school. Mr. and Mrs. Russell also served as foster parents for many years with the Columbiana Co. Children's Services. On Feb. 1, 2004, he was preceded in death by his wife, Betty (Overman) Russell; they were married on Jan. 18, 1946. Survivors include one son; Donald E. Russell and his wife, Debra, of Pickerington, Ohio; one brother: Charles Russell of East Liverpool; four grandchildren: Nicole Turturice and her husband, Jared, of Delaware, Ohio, Rick Hipsley and his wife, Emily, of Columbus, Aaron Russell of Columbus, and Jordan Russell of Westpoint; and three great grandchildren, Joey, Jeorgia, and Juliana Turturice of Delaware, Ohio. In addition to his parents and wife, Mr. Russell was preceded in death by a son, Michael Russell; two brothers, John and Ross Russell; and five sisters: Olive Griffin, Ruth Sprouse, Mary Louise Smith, Helen Bailey, and Thelma Edgar. Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday at the Calcutta Chapel of the Martin MacLean Altmeyer Funeral Homes with Pastor William Wagner of the church officiating. Burial will follow in the Spring Grove Cemetery. Family will be present to receive friends at the Calcutta Chapel on Sunday, Nov. 30, 2008, from noon to 4 p.m. and up until time of services on Monday.
