Description	:	U.S. ARMY NATIONAL GUARD Wendell Edwin Waterman, 71, of Persia, passed away July 8 at Westmont Care Center in Logan. Funeral services were held at 10 a.m., July 13 at the Logan Memorial Chapel with Pastor Kirk Parsons officiating. Casket bearers were Steve Heim, Randy Bruck, Lanny Newland, Jason Bruck, Rick Newland and Raymond Bruck. Final resting place was Valley View Cemetery near Persia. Military honors were conducted by American Legion Post 314 of Persia. Wendell was born Sept. 7, 1937 on a small farm north of Logan to Orville and Lotus (Kemmish) Waterman. In 1941 they moved on the farm across the road from the Jess Kemmish farm and lived there until 1943. Wendell and his parents then moved to the farm north of Persia. They lived there until 1968 when Lotus' father passed away. They then moved to the Jess Kemmish farm west of Persia until the present time. Wendell graduated from Persia High School in 1956. He worked for Firestone Tire Company for a short time and then went to college for one year at Lamoni. Wendell worked at the State Bank and Trust for one year. He then joined the National Guard and spent six months basic training at Fort Leonard Wood, Mo. He returned home and worked with United Airlines in Omaha as a ticket and passenger agent from 1959 to 1971. In 1971 he worked at a travel agency and came back to live with his parents on the farm where he lived and farmed with his dad until 1993. Wendell enjoyed collecting classic toy cars, mowing and taking care of the farm. Survivors include cousins and friends.
