Description	:	Wendell was the son of Harm and Selina (Roberts) Arends. He was educated at schools in Lincoln, McCook, and Turner Counties of South Dakota before graduating from Hurley High School. Wendell worked for a time at the Nickle Plate café in Sioux Falls before entering the U.S. Army in 1942. During World War II, he served with the 37th Infantry Division in the South Pacific and received three bronze stars before his discharge in 1945. Read More	Wendell was the son of Harm and Selina (Roberts) Arends. He was educated at schools in Lincoln, McCook, and Turner Counties of South Dakota before graduating from Hurley High School. Wendell worked for a time at the Nickle Plate café in Sioux Falls before entering the U.S. Army in 1942. During World War II, he served with the 37th Infantry Division in the South Pacific and received three bronze stars before his discharge in 1945. In 1950, he recalled to service and spent a year serving during the conflict in Korea. Wendell farmed for sixteen years before owning and operating Arends Champion Station for another thirteen years. He worked at Fountain International for two years, Union County Highway Department for three years, and Cotton Chevrolet for two years. Wendell also served as mayor of Beresford, SD as well as president of the Beresford Chamber of Commerce. He was also an EMT from 1961 to 1993, and spent three years as Union County Coroner. Wendell was a member of Brooklyn Evangelical Free Church. He was also a member of the Beresford VFW and American Legion. He and his wife lived in Beresford, SD. He was survived by his wife, a son, a daughter, a sister, seven grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren. He was preceeded in death by his son, Leonard; his parents; four brothers; and, one sister.
