During his lifetime, Wesley was considered eccentric by most people. He invented numerous objects which he failed to apply for patent. His children lived to see these re-invented by others in later years. He was extremely well read and knowledgeable. His family finally came to realize he was not eccentric, but was a man born before his time. His ideas would have been more appropriate for later generations.
