He was born on February 19, 1918 in Boone, Iowa the son of Mansfield and Vera (Fehleisen) Herrald. On April 15, 1968, Cay and Wes were married at the First Presbyterian Church Chapel in Boone. Wes graduated from Boone High School and Drake University in 1940 with a BS Degree in Pharmacy. He was a veteran of World War II serving in the US Navy aboard the U.S.S. Hoggatt Bay aircraft carrier in the Pacific Theater and continued serving for 30 years in the US Naval Reserve, retiring as a Commander. After World War II, Wes returned home to join his father in the Herrald Drug Company, which he continued to own and operate until his retirement in 1983. Wes dedicated his life to serving the Boone community. His civic leadership included serving as an Elder of the First Presbyterian Church, where he was a member; Kiwanis Club; 50-year member of the Iowa Pharmacist Association; served as a Director on the Boards of the Boone Chamber of Commerce; Boone Industrial Development Corporation; Boone County YMCA, where he co-chaired the YMCA Building Fund; Erickson Public Library; and served as Chairman of the Board at Boone State Bank. His parents, 1st wife Esther in October of 1963, and son Steven in June of 2005 preceded him in death. Survivors include his wife Cay of Boone; daughter Ann Christiansen and husband Dennis of Omaha, Nebraska; son Mark Herrald and wife Vicky of Chandler, Arizona; granddaughter Teri Alayne Jungblut and husband Larry of Runnells, Iowa; grandsons William Wesley Christiansen and Cole Thomas Christiansen both of Omaha, Nebraska; a sister Ruthanne Taylor of Ottumwa, Iowa; nieces, nephews, and many more beloved family and friends. His body has been cremated. A memorial service will be held on Saturday morning, June 14th at 11:00 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church in Boone with Rev. Paul Fraser officiating. Interment of his cremains will be at a private family graveside service at the Linwood Park Cemetery in Boone with presentation of the flag by the Veterans Council of Boone prior to the Memorial service. Friends may call at the Stark-Welin Chapel in Boone on Friday evening from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. with the family present during that time to greet friends. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Endowment Fund for either the Erickson Public Library or the First Presbyterian Church.
