Mr. Meyer was 67 years, 11 months and 18 days of age and leaves four grown daughters to mourn his passing. Mrs. Meyers died December 30, 1924, and is buried in the cemetery of the Reformed Church, north of Everly, where on last Friday all that was mortal of the husband and father also was laid to rest. Mr. Meyer was a patient in the Spencer Hospital the latter part of November and most of December, He was taken to Chicago, on December 28 and everything that human hands could do for him was done, but to no avail. His death occurred January 9, at 3:45 p.m. Mr. Meyer was born in Germany, January 21, 1858, coming to America when only nine years of age. His early life in this county was spent in Illinois, where he lived three years, and then went to Missouri, where he spent several years, most of the time at Burnard. He was married in the fall of 1879 to Miss Johanna Eiten at Holland, Grundy County, Iowa and with his young wife he came to Clay County to try his hand at pioneer farming soon after the nupital ceremony had been performed. For may years Mr. and Mrs. Meyer lived on their large farm north of Everly and there they reared a fine family of four sons and four daughters all of whom survive. Two of the children are dead. Ten surviving sons are; E.W. Meyer, S.W. Meyer, L.W. Meyer and Ben Meyer all of near Everly. The daughters are; Mrs. Dick Roskens and Mrs. George Winterboer of near of Everly, Mrs. John Beving of near Fostoria, and Mrs. Conrad Winterboer of Storm Lake. Mr. and Mrs. Meyer owned nearly four quarters of land north of Everly and a son now lives on each quarter. Funeral services held at the home of the on Ben, north of Everly at one o'clock and at the Reformed Church in that vicinity immediately afterwards. Were attended by many friends and relatives. The services were conducted by Rev. Shafer, Pastor of the Reformed Church, assisted by Rev. DeVries, former pastor now of Sibley, both very good friends of the Meyer family. Pallbearers were the four sons and two of the sons-in-law, John Beving and Conrad Winterboer. Mr. Meyer was an honest, hard working citizen who enjoyed the respect of all his neighbors and friends. He was form many years township trustee in Waterford Township and was up to the time of his death a responsible director of the Farmers Savings Bank at Fostoria.
