He was born Oct. 4, 1928, at Halstead, Kan., to Carl J. and Mildred Goldie (Smith) Dirks. He was a lifelong area resident and was a member of Grace Church of God In Christ Mennonite Church Halstead, Kan. On Feb. 5, 1950, he married Claribel Wiggers at Halstead, Kan. She preceded him in death March 15, 2011. He was preceded in death by a son, Wilferd Dirks; great-granddaughter, Mikayla Dirks; and sisters, Bertha Wiggers, Angy Dirks and Orlene Koehn. Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. with the family present from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 9, 2014, at Kaufman Funeral Home, Halstead. Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Friday, Oct. 10, 2014, at Grace Church of God in Christ Mennonite Church, Halstead, with Ministers Raleigh Koehn, Marlin Unruh and Dean Becker officiating. Burial will follow at Halstead Cemetery, Halstead.
