She was born May 5, 1920 in Iola, Kansas, the only child of Wilber L. and Mamie K. Moore. She went to elementary school in Iola, KS, then moved to Frontenac, KS where she attended Jr. High School, then moved back to Iola graduating from Iola High School in 1938. Read More	******************** Published Chanute, KS - March 10, 2008 Wilberta Cecilia Taylor, 87, of Chanute, Kansas, passed away Saturday, March 8, 2008 at her home. She was born May 5, 1920 in Iola, Kansas, the only child of Wilber L. and Mamie K. Moore. She went to elementary school in Iola, KS, then moved to Frontenac, KS where she attended Jr. High School, then moved back to Iola graduating from Iola High School in 1938. After graduating from Allen Co. Community College she taught grades 1 through 8 at South Maple Grove Rural School, Allen County. She married James H. Taylor Jr., September 30, 1941 at Trinity Methodist Church on S. Kentucky in Iola, Kansas. He preceded her in death in April of 2004. She was a homemaker and also worked helping Jim with the family businesses. They started by selling fireworks in 1954. When they moved to 402 S. Lincoln they became Taylor's Discount Fireworks. Next they began selling Memorial Day Flowers and wreaths. In 1969 they opened Taylor's Ice Dock and soon added pop, beer and fish bait. Through all these years they also operated Taylor's Concessions, traveling all over Southeast Kansas and Southwest Missouri to sidewalk sales and local celebrations selling cotton candy, sno-cones and etc. She loved to travel. Over the years she enjoyed various family vacations throughout the continental US. They traveled to Hawaii, once to Alaska and several times to Europe. She also loved her kitties, often taking in the strays that would frequently appear. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Chanute, and a member of the United Methodist Women Todays Concerns Link. She also served on numerous church committees. Survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law, Alicia and Stephen Fickel and Patricia and John Busse, both of Chanute, KS; a son George Taylor of Chanute, KS; three grandchildren, Johnny Busse and Melissa Wikel of Chanute, KS, and Michael Taylor of Junction City, KS; two great-grandchildren, Megan and Eric Wikel of Chanute, KS; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be March 12, 2008 at the First United Methodist Church, Chanute, Kansas with Reverend Henry Disbrow officiating. Burial will follow in Highland Cemetery, Iola, Kansas. Memorials in her name may be made to the First United Methodist Church or Castaways Animal Shelter, Chanute, Kansas. ********************
