Before his condition required hospitalization, Mr. McNamee had remained active and throughout the winter while living at the Hotel Indiana, had visited with many friends in the city's business establishments as had been his custom for years. The death of Mr. McNamee brings to a close a life which has been filled with quiet dignity and great usefulness. Through years of association in the firms of King and McNamee and later King, McNamee and Hipskind and as director of the old Wabash National bank, Mr. McNamee knew many persons from all sections of the county. Those whom he contacted in the business world, those who learned to know him through the more than 40 years of faithful service as an officer of the Presbyterian church and those who were privileged to know him as close friends, knew him to be a man of unusual dependability, sincerity and high ideals. Expressions of sorrow were heard throughout the city following Mr. McNamee's death Friday. Among those who commented were: Rev. Ware W. Wimberly - "He was a good man and a great Christian." Homer Hipskind - "Although Mr. McNamee left the firm in 1912 he has always carried a key to our store and has spent much time here. His loss will be keenly felt." Miss Lucy Wilhelm - "He was the person of whom you could truly say, He was a grand old man." Homer T. Showalter - "Wilbur McNamee was a friend to a lot of people in Wabash you know something of. He did a lot of things in his nice, quiet way for many people." Jerry Jontry - "That's just like cutting down a fine, strong tree in a community, isn't it?" Born June 20, 1860 in a one story brick house which stood on the site of the present Henry Bradley home on West Hill street, Mr. McNamee spent the entire 81 years of his life within a distance of two blocks on Hill street. His home since early childhood had been at 208 West Hill street. He was the son of Thomas and Mary E. Armstrong McNamee. His father was a native of Ohio and came to this county in 1840. His mother was a native of this state. After obtaining his education in the city schools Mr. McNamee became associated with his father in the hardware business and at the age of 21 bought his father's interest in the firm of King and McNamee. He was an active partner in the business until 1912 at which time he retired. For many years Mr. McNamee served as a director for the Wabash National bank which his father had helped organize as a private bank in 1877. Throughout the period of his active business life and since his retirement, Mr. McNamee had given freely of his services to the Presbyterian church which he served as treasurer. Mr. McNamee who had never married, is survived by one brother, H. H. McNamee of Northport, Mich., one nephew, Edward McNamee of Tuscon, Ariz., and two neices, Mrs. Stanley Shipner of Indianapolis and Mrs. Gordon Tevis of San Francisco. One brother, Thomas W. McNamee, preceded him in death. The body was taken to the Jones funeral home where friends may call. Funeral services will be held in the Presbyterian church at 2:30 o'clock Sunday afternoon with Ware W. Wimberly, pastor, in charge. Burial will be in the family mausoleum in Falls cemetery.
