Harrison Passes Away Death claimed a pioneer St. Helena resident when Wilbur A. Harrison passed away at the St. Helena Sanitarium Wednesday morning. Although he had been in poor health for the past two years, he was able to be up and about and was only taken to the Sanitarium Tuesday night. Mr. Harrison was born in Oakland, and was 76 years of age on the 3rd of last August. His early life was spent in Oakland and St. Helena, his parents dividing their time between the bay area and the Napa Valley. He followed in the footsteps of his father in the contracting business, and was active in the building trade here until about two years ago, when he retired because of failing health. Always interested in civic affairs, Mr. Harrison had served as a member of the city council, and was one of the first members of the St. Helena Volunteer Fire Department, which was one of his chief interests. He was a member of St. Helena Parlor of Native Sons and St. Helena Lodge of Odd Fellows, having received his 50-year membership jewel from the latter organization. He was also a member of St. Helena's Catholic church. On February 16, 1954, Mr. and Mrs. Harrison would have celebrated their fiftieth wedding anniversary. They were married in St. Helena and had spent their entire wedded life here, Mrs. Harrison being the former Lena Lazzari, daughter of pioneer St. Helenans. Besides his wife, he is survived by the following sons and daughters, Frank Harrison and Leo Harrison of San Francisco, Mrs. Angela Young of Rutherford. Wilbur Harrison, Jr., of San Francisco, Mrs. Helena Elder of Atherton, and Horace Harrison of Daly City. He also leaves twelve grandchildren. Also surviving are a sister, Mrs. Edna Sullivan of Oakland, three half brothers, Louis Hobbs of San Anselmo, Horace Hobbs of Sun Francisco, Ralph Harrison of Oakland, and a half sister, Carmelite of Fresno. The funeral will take place at 9:30 o'clock Friday morning at the Hans Jensen Memorial Chapel, thence to the St. Helena's Catholic church. The Rosary will be recited at 8 o'clock tonight at the Hans Jensen Memorial Chapel. St. Helena Star, December 17, 1953
