Wilbur Gratopp Goesch was born June 26, 1927, in Dawes County, Nebraska, the son of George and Rosa (Gratopp) Goesch. The family later moved to Buffalo Gap and then to Hot Springs. He graduated from Hot Springs High School in 1945. He proudly served in the U.S. Army and served in the 508th Military Police Battalion E.T.O., from 1945 to 1948, and stationed in Germany. He married Elaine Ida Edna Redepenning on November 19, 1948, in Ortonville, Minnesota. He reenlisted in the U.S. Army on January 16, 1951, and served in the 175th F.A., Battalion, 47th Division, during the Korean War and was discharged in September 1952. He owned a service station in Ortonville, until the mid 1960's, when they moved back to Hot Springs. He opened Crankshaft Service that served many local residents and ranchers with his machining talents during the 1970's. He and Elaine were later divorced. He married Betty Jean Taylor on February 16, 1977, in Fall River and were later divorced. He moved to Dallas, Oregon, where he was employed as a machinist during the 1980's. He remarried his first wife, Elaine (Redepenning) Goesch on March 3, 1980, in Reno, Nevada, and were later divorced. He moved back to Hot Springs in 1990, and married Helen Leedom on November 1, 2002, in Fall River. He was an active member of Bethesda Lutheran Church over several decades. He loved working in his shop, gardening, driving his Graham Bros truck in parades and being around people. Surviving are his wife, Helen; one son, Mark (Marlene) Goesch of Sioux Center, IA; one granddaughter, Vonna (Bryan) Laue; two great-granddaughters, Bethany and Kimberly; one brother, George Goesch of Salem, OR; and countless friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, Mary Goesch and one brother, Willard Goesch. Hot Springs Star, June 20, 2017
