Read More	****************************************** Wilbur Herbert Splinter, the son of Julius and Myrtle Pollard Splinter, was born near Hampton, Nebraska, on March 22, 1917, and passed away at York, Nebraska, on October 13, 1985, at the age of 68 years, 6 months and 21 days. He grew up and attended school near Hampton and graduated from Hampton High School and then attended Lincoln School Commerce. He was then employed by Iowa-Nebraska Light and Power in the York offices, and later by the U.S. Department of Agriculture in Washington, D.C. On February 14, 1942, he was united in marriage to Lucille Miller at Overlea, Maryland. Wilbur enlisted in the U.S. Army in May of 1942 and served in the signal corps and was later transferred to the infantry. He served in Germany and was there at the time of VE Day. He was discharged in January of 1946, after earning the rank of sergeant. Wilbur worked for the Brown Fruit Company in Grand Island before returning to the farm where he was born. He operated the farm from 1950 until retiring in 1983. They moved to York in October of 1985. He was a member of the First Christian Church in Aurora and was a former member of the Hamilton County ASC Committee. He was a member of the Hampton American Legion #141, and a member of Air Force Sergeants Association. He was preceded in death by his parents and one son Wilbur Eugene Splinter. Those who survive to cherish his memory are his wife Lucille; 3 daughters, Mrs. Connie Hilligas of Hampton, Mrs. Marcia Nielsen of Omaha and Mrs. Jane Knuth of Lexington; one son Jay Splinter of Hampton; 7 grandchildren; 2 sisters, Mrs. Imogene Florea and Mrs. Genevieve Wilshusen both of Aurora and one brother Otis Leonard Splinter of Bartlesville, Oklahoma, nieces and nephews and other relatives and close friends. Funeral Services were held 2:00 Wednesday, October 16, 1985 at Higby Mortuary. Interment was held in the Aurora Cemetery.
