Description	:	Dad passed away May 18, 2007, at his home, surrounded by his family, after a battle with cancer. Wilbur was born April 25, 1933 in Laurel, to Reinhold and Freda Kembel. He moved to east Billings at a young age, where he attended Pioneer Progressive School, then onto Shepherd School, where he graduated in 1952. On Dec. 13, 1952, he married Darlene Zieske, and they lived in Lockwood most of their lives, where he farmed and worked construction as a member of Local 400 Operating Engineers. Wilbur was born April 25, 1933 in Laurel, to Reinhold and Freda Kembel. He moved to east Billings at a young age, where he attended Pioneer Progressive School, then onto Shepherd School, where he graduated in 1952. On Dec. 13, 1952, he married Darlene Zieske, and they lived in Lockwood most of their lives, where he farmed and worked construction as a member of Local 400 Operating Engineers. Dad loved doing many things in life: raising good cattle and his many Shetland ponies, but most of all, he loved being around and helping kids. Any kid was always welcome at Mom and Dad's home. He has had more kids call him Grandpa them most people can count. Wilbur was preceded in death by his wife Darlene on Jan. 11, 2006; his parents; son Tommy; and his granddaughter Katherin. He is survived by his daughters, Marcia (Woody) Strever, Michelle (Mike) Mattfeldt; and son Russ (Kim) Kembel; grandkids, Heidi (Eric), Billy (Terri), Hillary, Ashley and Samantha; great-grandkids, Haylee, Emalee, Dez, Cory, Jayce; brothers, Reinie, Jim; and sister Jane; uncles Raymond, Carl, Sam and aunt Mary. Dad always joked that he would need a brand inspection to get to heaven and he was given one shortly before he passed. It made him smile. Funeral services will be at American Lutheran Church, 5 Lewis Ave., on Monday, May 21, at 2:30 p.m., with burial to follow at the Shepherd Cemetery. Smith Downtown Chapel is in charge of arrangements. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Shepherd Lions Club building fund or the Food Bank.
