Description	:	Wilbur Leroy (Bud) Farmer was born in Hodgeman County, near Jetmore, September 28, 1907. His parents were Frank Edwin Farmer and Iva Mae (Dean) Farmer. Read More	Wilbur Leroy (Bud) Farmer was born in Hodgeman County, near Jetmore, September 28, 1907. His parents were Frank Edwin Farmer and Iva Mae (Dean) Farmer. He went to several different schools as his parents moved to locations where they harvested. His father owned and operated a threshing machine, Bud enjoyed this very much. He had only one sister whom he loved dearly and teased unmercifully. He was a very active child. His sister was less than a year younger than he and they were often in trouble, as his sister thought up things for him to get into (that’s what he said). All through his life he owned a bull dog, or was it the other way around? He married Elma Permelia Zordel on September 28, 1928, at Gove, Kansas. Times were hard those first few years, as indeed they were never really easy. Bud was always patient and made do with what he had. Four children came to bless us, two girls first and then two boys, Marilyn Leigh Mollenkamp of Russell Springs, Kansas; Roselma M. Farmer of the home, now stationed at March Air Force Base, Riverside, Calif.; Lowell Dean Farmer of Warrensburg, Mo.; and Wilbur David Farmer, recently returned from Germany to be stationed at Redstone, Huntsville, Ala. In turn these children gave us our son-in-law, Gayle; daughters-in-law, Charlene and Libby. More blessings were added with 11 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren. Of these there is only one Farmer boy to carry on Bud’s name. About four years ago Brother Friberg brought films to the house, showing the life of Jesus and explained many questions that had been discussed and didn’t understand. When the end of this film came, Brother Ron asked Bud, “Would you like to be baptized?” Bud said, “Yes, someday.” Brother Ron said, “Why not today?” Bud said, “Alright, how soon?” Brother Ron said, “Meet me over at the church in about 20 minutes, this we did.” He confirmed and confessed what he always believed, that Christ was his Saviour. Bud was a farmer by name, by heart and by occupation. He had ideas about several things and ways to improve on things he worked with, and with B.J.’s help, he got it done. He leaves to remember him: His wife and children, his brother-in-law; his sister's husband, Willard Stowe of WaKeeney; Henry Wagner of Orosi, Calif.; Sam McBride of Des Moines, Ia.; and sisters-in-law, Edna Zordel of near Denver, Colo.; and Flossie Zordel of Hutchinson; nephews, nieces and cousins and many friends. He died October 27, 1982, in the operating room in Saint Francis Hospital at Wichita. He knew us all through his last illness. His sense of humor still prevailed. He was a kind and loving husband and father. We will miss him very much, but to be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord. Ness Co. News, Nov. 18, 1982
