Wilbur Lester Gibson was born on July 9, 1922, in Granite Canyon, WY, the son of Mary and Bert Gibson. Wilbur served in the US Navy, during World War II. On December 27, 1949, he was united in marriage to Lela DeBok in Winterset. They moved to Des Moines in 1950. Wilbur had worked for V.C. Benderoff for 28 years. After the company closed, he worked for the State of IA in maintenance for five years until his retirement in 1982. Wilbur was a member of Highland Park American Legion. He was a friend to everyone. Wilbur is survived by his daughters, Carolyn (Clyde) Petty of Carlisle and Patricia (Robert) Stevens of Des Moines; six grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; three sisters, Ida (James) Smith of KS, Bernita Gibson and Gladys Ritter both of Des Moines; and his brother, Carroll (Peggy) Gibson of OK. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Lela, son, Russell Iiams; son-in-law, Kenneth Allred; five brothers, Raymond, Marion, Walter, Garrett and Eddie and a sister, Edith. Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m., Sunday, May 16, at the funeral home.
