Description	:	Wilbur "Lyle" Dunn Lyle Dunn, 79, was born December 25, 1915, in Clay County near the 8-Mile Community, to James Reed & Katie (Bull) Dunn. Lyle died January 19, 1995, at the Veteran's Hospital in Kansas City, Missouri. He attended the 2-Mile, 8-Mile & Hebron Grade Schools & graduated from Clay County High School in 1935. Read More	Wilbur "Lyle" Dunn Lyle Dunn, 79, was born December 25, 1915, in Clay County near the 8-Mile Community, to James Reed & Katie (Bull) Dunn. Lyle died January 19, 1995, at the Veteran's Hospital in Kansas City, Missouri. He attended the 2-Mile, 8-Mile & Hebron Grade Schools & graduated from Clay County High School in 1935. He farmed & was a substitute teacher for a short while. He managed a Phillips 66 service station. During the early 40's he did defense work for Boeing at Wichita & construction near Concordia & then served in the U.S. Army during World War II. After returning home, he worked for Clifford Reed & John Brosie Contractors. Later Lyle started his own business as Dunn Construction. In 1975, he began employment as a civil service preventative maintenance man at Fort Riley where he received several awards, one being the Commander's Award for Civilian Service. The citation: Mr. Wilbur L. Dunn is officially commended for his outstanding performance of duties as a preventative maintenance carpenter. His courteous manner & thorough knowledge of every aspect of building maintenance & repair makes him a very important asset to the Facilities Engineering mission. He was a member of the First Baptist Church, Clay Center, and the American Legion, Clay Center. He married Goldie Benjamin November 26, 1939, & to this union four children were born: Judy, Douglas, Jean & Dean. This marriage ended in 1961. On December 23, 1971, he married Doris Young. She survives of the home. Other survivors include two daughters: Judy Gilkes & husband LeRoy, Flint, Michigan, & Jean Anderson & husband Robert, Topeka, Kansas; one son, Dean Dunn & wife Deb, Clay Center, Kansas; eight grandchildren: Roger Webster & wife Deb; Danny Webster & wife Dawn; Christine Horst & husband Jeff; Greg, Scott & Ashley Dunn; Judith & Jacob Anderson; four great grandchildren: Roger Webster III, Amber & Douglas Webster, Justin Horst; one brother, Bruce Dunn & wife Lillie, Olney, Illinois; two sisters: Ethyl Copeland & husband Clark, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, & Myrtle Steward & husband Dale, Clay Center; one sister-in-law, Anna Jo Atkinson & husband Gerald, Hutchinson; many nephews, nieces, cousins & in-laws. Lyle was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Henry & Alvin Dunn, & three sisters, Inez Chestnut, Gertrude Chestnut & Edna Dunn. He lost his oldest son, Douglas, who died March 26, 1975. Services were held 11:00 A.M., Saturday, January 21, Neill-Schwensen-Rook Chapel, Clay Center, Rev. Dave Bybee & Dr. Clark Copeland officiating. Melvina Pletcher gave his history & momentos. Music was by Mrs. Cindy Affolter & Mr. Jeremy Pera. Pallbearers were four of his grandsons: Roger & Danny Webster, Greg & Scott Dunn; two sons-in-law, LeRoy Gilkes & Robert Anderson. Burial was at the Greenwood Cemetery with full military honors. Neill-Schwensen-Rook Mortuary was in charge of the arrangements. Memorials were made to the American Legion Post 101, the CCCHS Construction Project Fund or the First Baptist, Presbyterian & Christian Churches.
