Description	:	EFFINGHAM — Wilbur McQueen Ham Sr., 90, died Monday, July 16, 2007, at a local nursing home facility after an illness. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday, July 18, in Elim Baptist Church, Effingham. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Waters-Powell Funeral Home. Mr. Ham was born in Effingham, a son of the late Carson Jerome Ham Sr. and Myrtie Kirby Ham. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Waters-Powell Funeral Home. Mr. Ham was born in Effingham, a son of the late Carson Jerome Ham Sr. and Myrtie Kirby Ham. He was owner and operator of Hams Feed and Seed Co. in Florence until his retirement. Mr. Ham was a member of Elim Baptist Church, Effingham. Before his illness he served as church treasurer for many years. He also served as deacon, later being named deacon emeritus. He was a long time member of the church choir, the Senior Mens Sunday School Class, as well as many other functions of the church. He was especially known for visiting patients in hospitals and nursing facilities, and was recognized in 1997 by Heritage Home Inc., Florence, for his outstanding service to their residents. Surviving are his wife of 67 years, Mary Lawhon Ham of Effingham; a daughter, Yvonne Ham Cannon and her husband, Neveland, of Turbeville; two sons, Wilbur M. Buck Ham Jr. and his wife, Jeanette, and R. Wayne Ham and his wife, Betty, both of Effingham; six grandsons, Glenn (Julie) Ham of Effingham, Todd (Sally) Ham of Timmonsville, Tracy (Susan) Huggins of Florence, Ashley (Lindsey) Cannon of Lexington, Gowdy Cannon of Chicago and Jeremy (Lacey)Cannon of Turbeville; three granddaughters, Kim (Mark) Driggers of Turbeville, Beth (Ricky) Moore and Barbara (Adam) Moore, both of Effingham; and 13 great-grandchildren, Tyler Ham, Jesslyn Ham, Hoyt Ham, Hallie Ham, Mary Katherine Driggers, Maggie Driggers, Camille Driggers, Michelle Huggins, Ryan Huggins, Caleb Huggins, Brandon Moore, Andrew Moore and Sara Moore. He is also survived by two brothers, Billy O. Ham of Timmonsville and Kelly W. Ham of Scranton. Mr. Ham was predeceased by a sister, Greta Ham Myers, and a brother, C. Jerome Ham Jr. Memorials may be made to Elim Baptist Church Building Fund, 1303 Olanta Highway, Effingham, SC 29541. The family will be at the home of Buck and Jeanette Ham, 1611 Olanta Highway, Effingham. The family would also like to extend a special thank you to the staff of the Heritage Home of Florence.
