He was a member of the Cherry Box Christian Church. Mr. McEwen is survived by a son, J. Meredith McEwen of Quincy, Illinois; and two daughters, Helen, Mrs. Ernie Snow, and Maxine, Mrs. Jasper Perry of Novelty. Also surviving are nine grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; a half-sister, Ethel, Mrs. Roy Belt of Macon; and a half-brother, Homer McEwen of Leonard; and several nieces and nephews. He was born Nov. 1, 1892 in Shelby County, a son of John H. and Annie (Loft) McEwen. He was married to Mary Grace Simmons Feb. 4, 1915 in Shelbyville and she died June 10, 1936. He had been a farmer, was Star mail carrier out of Shelbina for six years, and had been janitor of the Novelty school for nine years. Besides his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents; a grandson, Billy Perry; a sister, Bessie; and three brothers, Tony, Glenn and an infant brother.
