Read More	SOURCE: The Nebraska Signal September 1994 ANDERSON, WILBUR NORRIS—Wilbur Norris Anderson was born to Edward Mattson Anderson and Amanda (Otillia) Anderson of December 21, 1920, near Verona, in Clay county. He passed away on August 25, 1994, at the Tabitha Nursing Home in Lincoln, at the age of 73 years, 8 months and 4 days. He was one of 10 children in the family. Wilbur grew up and attended school in Clay county, until 1932, at which time his family moved to Fillmore county near Strang. He entered the Army on August 8, 1942, and served with the 27th Evacuation Hospital as a nurse. His tour of duty took him to Africa, Italy, France and Germany. He was discharged on December 17, 1945, after attaining the rank of Corporal. Wilbur returned to the Geneva area after the war, and was engaged in custom farm work in Nebraska and Iowa. Wilbur was married to Rosa May Toren of Geneva on February 24, 1952, and to them two children were born. They celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary in February of 1992, with an open house. After May's parents had retired from farming and moved to town, she and Wilbur continued to farm the home place for over 30 years and gradually added land of their own. They were recipients of the Nebraska Pioneer Farm Award from the Knights of Ak-Sar-Ben in 1989. Wilbur was baptized at the Bethany Danish Evangelical Lutheran Church at Verona on March 13, 1921. He joined the United Methodist Church in 1953, and was a member of the United Methodist Men. He also was a member of the Geneva Community Grange No. 403 since 1959, serving several times as master. He joined the Independent Order of Odd Fellows Lodge No. 65 of Geneva on January 2, 1950, and was a member for 44 years. He also was a member of the American Legion Post No. 68 of Geneva. He will be remembered as a loyal friend to many and a loving, devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He was a kind and generous neighbor, always ready to lend a helping hand. He was an industrious and progressive farmer throughout his working life. Pride, knowledge, and quality describe him throughout his life in his farming and cattle operations. He found satisfaction in hard work and a job well done. After building a new home in Geneva, Wilbur and May moved to town in February of 1987. He loved to keep busy and spent his retirement years watching his farm continue to prosper through the efforts of Paul and Brenda Mumm and Richard and Darlene Janing. He took up woodworking as a hobby and enjoyed making toys, furniture and other miscellaneous items. His five grandchildren were his pride and joy and he delighted in watching them grow. After May's death, Wilbur was a source of strength and determination for his daughters and their families. He enjoyed the camaraderie of many friends, especially enjoying an evening of cards and conversation. His sense of humor remained with him even in these last few weeks as he would visit with his friends. We are all blessed to have learned from his example. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ed and Amanda Anderson; wife, May Anderson; three brothers, Harry, LeRoy and Merle Anderson; and twin sister, Wilma Spickelmier. He is survived by daughters, Joann (Max) McHale and Bonnie (Steve) Smith; five grandchildren, Kristin, Jennifer and David McHale, Amanda and Allison Smith; brother, Floyd Anderson and wife Violet; four sisters, Olive Myers, Violet (Bill) Nagel, Jean Buol and Darlene O'Connell; one sister-in-law, Etta Anderson; cousin, Merle Anderson and wife Edna; other cousins, nieces, nephews and many friends. Funeral services were conducted from the United Methodist Church in Geneva on Saturday, August 27, with the Rev. Charles Leypoldt officiating. Susan Kleinschmidt accompanied Delwin Myers, who sang "What A Friend" and Kelly Eich who sang "The Lord's Prayer." Active casket bearers were Mike, and Richard Janing, Lambert Hopken, Paul Mumm, Waldo Schinzel and Bob Taylor. Honorary casket bearers were John Girmus, Francis Kimbrough, Donald K. Kimbrough, Frank Otte, Norman Yates and Kenneth Hofferber. Interment was in the Geneva Public Cemetery.
