Description	:	Wilbur R. "Junior" Briggs was born on July 26, 1921 in Centerville, Iowa, the son of Wilbur C. Briggs and Myrtie W.(Moss)Briggs. Junior was united in marriage to Hazel Daily on June 10, 1941 in Unionville, MO. He joined the United States Navy on May 10, 1944 where he served on Saipan Island and was honorably discharged on February 6, 1946. Junior was employed by the Hy-Vee Food Stores for 45 years, working in Centerville, Unionville, MO and Knoxville before retiring in 1981. Following retirement, Jr. enjoyed working on the computer and attending the sprint car races. Most of all he loved spending time with his great-grandchildren. Junior was a member of the Rotary Club for 37 years, Prosperity Masonic Lodge #504 for 63 years and the Za-Ga-Zig Shrine for 53 years. He was also a member of the Attica Methodist Church. Junior was blessed to have many friends and the many lives he touched are better for having known him. Jr. passed away on Wednesday, August 1, 2012 at the Knoxville Area Community Hospital at the age of 91 years. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife of 54 years, Hazel; brothers: Ancel, Kenneth, Robert, Tom Moss, Gerald; sisters, Phyllis Smith and Elizabeth Adair. He is survived by his children: Karen(Jim)Owen of St. Peters, MO, Penny(Gary)Bisignano of Des Moines, Gene(Kathy)Briggs of Ft. Myers, FL, Rose Ann(Frosty)Harrington of Knoxville; 8 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren and 1 more to come; siblings, Bill Briggs of Ottumwa, Mary Olive O'Leary of Kansas City, MO; his special friend, Annette Davis, along with other relatives and many friends. Funeral services for Junior Briggs, age 91 of Knoxville, will be held on Saturday, August 4, 2012 at the Celebrate Community Church at 10 am with burial in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Cincinnati, Iowa at 3 pm. Visitation will begin after 11 am on Friday at the Bybee & Davis Funeral Home with the family receiving friends from 4-8 pm and a Masonic Service at 4 pm. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Central Iowa or to the Knoxville Area Community Hospital.
