Bybee, Fort Scott, was the engineer of the south-bound freight train. Melton, a veteran of World War II, was an employee of the Vinyl Plex plant in Pittsburg. He was born April 28, 1913, in Bates County, Missouri. He and Dorothy Ashmore were married in 1938 in Girard. Surviving, in addition to his wife, are three daughters, Mrs. Charlotte Purdy, Pittsburg, Mrs. Harold Endicott, Weir, and Mrs. Sharon Cleffman, Pittsburg, R. 1; two sons, Lloyd Melton, Oronogo, Mo., R. 1, and Larry Melton, Columbus R. 2; four brothers, Orville Melton, Opolis, Lester Melton and Everett Melton, both of Weir R. 1, and Murle Melton, Pittsburg R. 2; two sisters, Mrs. Golda Hartshorn, Chanute, and Mrs. Alma O'Block, Frontenac, and 12 grandchildren. Services will be announced by Smith Funeral Home, Pittsburg. The Parsons Sun Parsons, Kansas 27 Nov 1972 Melton Services Wilford (Bill) Melton, 59, died Sunday in a truck-train collision near Cherokee. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday in Smith Chapel in Pittsburg, with the Rev. James Shope officiating. Burial will be in Crocker Cemetery. The American Legion will have graveside rites. Two of Mr. Melton's brothers were given erroneous addresses in the Monday Headlight-Sun. Lester Melton is a resident of Weir and Orville Melton lives in Opolis. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Chapel. The casket will remain closed.
