He was a part of the 101s1 Airborne Division and... Read More	Wilfred “Bill” Carl Cordes age 92 of Napoleon, Ohio passed away Friday, December 29, 2017 at Genacross Lutheran Services-Napoleon Campus. He was born on the family farm in Napoleon Township on March 26, 1925 to John and Marie (Plassman) Cordes. On June 7, 1946 he married Marian Gilliland who preceded him in death on August 19, 1977. On September 22, 1979 he then married Iva (Moore) Cymbola who passed away on July 3, 2015. Wilfred served in the U.S. Army during WWII from 1945-1946 in the infantry as a paratrooper. He was a part of the 101s1 Airborne Division and received a WWII victory medal. He farmed the homestead property along with making a career as the area manager of maintenance at Campbell Soup Company in Napoleon. He retired in 1987 after working 30 years. He was an avid fan of both the Detroit Tigers and Lions, and enjoyed attending many games. His hobbies included golfing, fishing on Lake Erie, pheasant hunting in South Dakota, playing cards, and frequenting the casinos. Bill also enjoyed extensive traveling with Iva throughout the States and abroad. He was a member of the American Legion Post 300 and AMVETS. Bill and Iva enjoyed spending countless hours watching their grandchildren participate in various sporting events and extra-curricular activities over many years. Wilfred was baptized, confirmed, and married at Bethlehem Lutheran Church of Okolona, Ohio where he remained a lifelong member. He served as deacon, trustee, elder, and as congregational President. Wilfred is survived by daughters, Peggy (Ken) Frysinger, Cindy (Bill) Sheridan, Jodie (Tim) Howe; step-children, Larry (Karen) Cymbola, Kenny (Laurie Ziegler) Cymbola, Julie (Terry) Slagle, Lori (Bob) Bevelhymer; grandchildren, Jamie, Nick, Jordan, Megan, Kevin, Haley; step-grandchildren, Shelley, John, Amy, Jackie, Trevor, Casten; 13 great grandchildren; sisters, Mary Baden and Margie Lange. He was preceded in death by both his wives along with 3 infant children; Robin, Jeffrey, and a stillborn son; his parents; and brothers Edmund Cordes and Harvey Cordes. Funeral services will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 4, 2018 at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, 30997 Gerken Road, Defiance, Ohio with visitation from 10 a.m. till the time of service. Interment will be in the church cemetery with military honors accorded by the Napoleon Joint Veteran Posts. In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial contributions be made to Bethlehem Lutheran Church.
