"Fritz" Thibodeau 1913 - 2012 Wilfred V. “Fritz” Thibodeau was born December 13, 1913, to Paul and Flavie Thibodeau in Blairmore, Alberta, Canada, the ninth of ten children. He attended elementary school in Blairmore until the family moved to Milltown, Montana. He attended Missoula County High School and graduated in 1932. Life's Work/Service/Interests: In 1936, he married Edith May Chess in Missoula, Montana. They lived in Pine Grove and raised three daughters: Janet, Judy and Joanne. He joined the Civilian Conservation Corps at Fort Missoula. When he was discharged from the CCC, he was hired by the Army as a civilian employee and assigned to the CCC at Fort Missoula. When the CCC were disbanded, he transferred to the Armed Services Market in San Francisco. After leaving the market, Fritz and his family returned to their home in Pine Grove. He then went to work for the Anaconda Company in Bonner and was assigned to the warehouse. He later became the purchasing agent for what was then known as Anaconda Forest Products. In 1974, he ran successfully for the position of Missoula County commissioner and served a six-year term and then decided to enjoy retirement. Fritz served on the Bonner School Board for 16 years, followed by an eight-year term on the Missoula County High School Board. He also served on the Western Montana Regional Community Mental Health Center Board, St. Mary's Cemetery Board, Clark Fork Riverside Board and the board of the Resurrection Cemetery Association for the Diocese of Helena. He treasured the many years he served as bookkeeper and sacristan for St. Ann's Parish in Bonner. He enjoyed all sports. In the late '20s and early '30s, he was a member of a hockey team that had six Thibodeaus on its roster, including his three brothers and two cousins. In the early years of their marriage, Fritz and his wife, Edith, followed the Bonner Lumberjacks baseball team and for the past few years they enjoyed Little League and American Legion teams around the area. They also liked grade school, high school and Grizzly games. In the winter, they had fun downhill and cross-country skiing, and in the summer water skiing and golf were great fun. Many weekends were spent at the family cabin at Seeley Lake. One of their favorite pastimes was square and round dancing. Fritz had a deep faith in God and a great love for family and friends. Wilfred V. "Fritz" Thibodeau passed away Tuesday, September 25, 2012, at St. Patrick Hospital of natural causes. He was 98. Survived By: His three daughters and their husbands: Janet and Harry Maddux, of Whitefish; Judy and Hal Karl, of Pine Grove; and Joanne and Bill Monahan, of Butte; two granddaughters and their husbands: Terri and Mario Benedict, of Whitefish; and Shelly and Terry Snipes, of Whitefish; four grandsons and their wives: Mike and Mindy Karl, of Bozeman; Brad and Lori Monahan, of Missoula; Jeff Monahan and Jason Monahan; and great-grandchildren: Tanner Benedict, Cory, Tyler and Joel Snipes, Clark and Phoebe Karl, Melody Monahan and Elsie Snipes; as well as many special nieces, nephews, cousins, wonderful friends and his parish family at St. Ann's. Preceded In Death By: His wife of 57 years, Edith; his parents; a granddaughter, Tracy Maddux, who lost her life in the Whitefish bus accident on Marias Pass.
