Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m., Saturday, Jan. 14, 2006, at Calvary Baptist Church, 515 Eighth Ave. N.W., Aberdeen, with Pastor Randy Battey and Bill's grandson, Pastor Trinity Opp, officiating. Wilhelm Forkel Jr. was born Sept. 23, 1917, at Hosmer, S.D., to Wilhelm and Magdalena (Gutjahr) Forkel Sr. He attended rural school near Roscoe, S.D. After his education, he remained on the family farm. He married Lorina Kranzler on Feb. 26, 1938, at Ipswich, S.D. They continued farming on the home place in the Roscoe-Hosmer area, where he raised grain and cattle. Lorina died on July 31, 2000. Bill moved to Aberdeen in 2001. He married Velda J. Bukaske on June 28, 2003. They moved to Bath, S.D., where he continued to reside until the time of his death. He was a member of St. Paul's Congregational Church of Hosmer, where he was a Sunday school teacher for 45 years and also served as Church Deacon for many years. For the past five years, Bill attended Calvary Baptist Church in Aberdeen. He was also a past School Board Member and Farmers Fireman at Hosmer. He loved to sing and participated in quartets for over 40 years. When he was younger, he played the guitar and accordion as well. Bill also enjoyed working on his farm. Survivors include his wife, Velda J. Forkel of Bath, S.D.; three daughters, Virginia (Herbert) Aman of Aberdeen, S.D., Sylvia (Harry) Preszler of Belle Fourche, S.D., and Marcella (Glen) Opp of Aberdeen, S.D.; one daughter-in-law, Nancy Alexander of Rapid City, S.D.; two stepsons, Kelly Bukaske of York, Neb., and Kerry (Emily) Bukaske of Valentine, Neb.; five stepdaughters, Debra (Neal) Anderson of Winchester, N.H., Lorna (Mike) La Hammer of Mt. Vernon, Iowa, Wanda Bukaske of Bismarck, N.D., Tamra (Jerry) Zimmerman of Roseglen, N.D., and Twyla (Jason) Sattler of Bath, S.D.; one brother, Adolph (Mary Kay) Forkel of Aberdeen, S.D.; one sister, Lydia Ehresman of Aberdeen, S.D.; one aunt, Lydia Pietz of Aberdeen, S.D.; 12 grandchildren; 26 stepgrandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; 12 stepgreat-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. This includes six generations of family living. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Lorina Forkel; one son, Le Roy Forkel; one brother, Edwin Forkel and three sisters, Esther Lauer, Magdalena Kainer and his sister Emma, in infancy. Casketbearers will be Brian Aman, Du Wayne Aman, Keith Aman, Dale Preszler, Tracy Opp and Jerrad Aman.
